BURGAW – Seeking support at the local level, District 8 state Senate hopeful Betty Fennell has asked the Pender County commissioners to support a resolution that would oppose illegal immigrants’ admittance into community college.
Fennell, who is a Republican, said the issue was an economic one, not a partisan issue.
“Columbus County ,which is either all Democrat or mostly Democrat, passed it and Brunswick County, which is mostly Republican passed it,” she said. “The state’s economy is not good. The time to allow this to happen is now. We need to stop training people who are here illegally from taking the jobs.”
