To the editor -- Yes, I'm a Republican advocating legal resident status for 12 million illegal aliens.

Here is my proposal. Issue each one a red or blue card, not green, so they are identifiable to the government and employers. Issue each a Social Security card so they can and must contribute to the Social Security system. Require that each file and pay income taxes and prohibit their working for cash, under the table.
